IntroductionSpring is h3re in Australia, and it's hard to stay inside when the garden and kids are calling. But in the US, this is the busiest time of the year on the internet, so it would be crazy to slack off n0w. Especially n0w that Christmas decorations are already appearing in the shops. Keep your eyes on your goals, and n3ver give up. I will not allow myself to be a loser online. Neither should you. I've been spending time offline learning PHP this month. Rather than spend hours reading lessons on a screen, I bought a book, so I could learn in bed. Hehe. But I pedantically and geekishly read the manual from beginning to end, and put it into practice by writing my first survey. I would love everybody to do it, as I would like to know what people would like to see in this newsletter each month. H3re is the link to the survey: SURVEY. I finished it at 11pm on the 30th, so it might be a bit rough around the edges. By the way, thanks to the people who visit my guestbook. Feedback is always nice. Although after all this time, I will resist public opinion and stick with my pinks and purples. It's kind of a trademark n0w. And it does catch the eye. Fr33biesThis month we have a cute little tool called Marquee Magic, courtesy of my MyJointVenture membership. It generates the code for those moving marquees that scroll across your screen. Very easy to use. Get it from h3re Marketing and Tech TipsHave you heard about Freshbot and Googlebot? They are the names of the Google programs that visit your site as they spider from link to link. In August I was very excited that Google had added me for http://www.work-from-home-in-australia.com and that I was on the first page. Then I found out that it was Google's friendly way of greeting new sites. Freshbot visits new sites added through Google's AddURL screen, and adds you temporarily to the Google index. But during September I was no longer indexed. Freshbot was a one-off visitor, and n0w I have to rely on Googlebot. It probably didn't help that halfway through the month I changed h0sting from freewebs to Kiosk. N0w that I have statistics from Kiosk, I can see that Googlebot has visited my site, so eventually I should be indexed again. My fault for not doing any link exchanges for that site during September. Security and perf0rmance are a constant battle these days. Especially if you ever download programs from the internet. I can't recommend Norton Internet Security highly enough. Their firewall is excellent. And it provides such useful information, like the IP address of the guy from New Jersey who keeps trying to attack my PC. Luckily NIS blocks him. And I can tell his ISP all about him. After a lot of surfing and downloading, PC perf0rmance can suffer. Mine was taking ages to boot up, shutdown and surf. I trialled TuneUp from Tune-Up for fr3e this month. It did have a nice friendly interface with several different ways to tune my PC, including freeing space, deleting files, cleaning registries and organising startup programs. But it expired after 4 days, instead of the advertised fr3e 30 day trial, possibly because of the Australian system date format. And I turned off a few too many things (like Java), in the search for efficiency. So I ended up going into the native Windows registry editor to finish cleaning things. There is a lot of scope for err0r when editing your registry - it is strongly recommended to back it up first. But I have done it once before, and have found it a great way to get rid of the last remnants of spyware hanging around, when I am confident of the name of the offending programs. When your firewall asks you if you want to allow a certain program access to the internet, if the answer is not immediately obvious, I go to Google and do a search on the program name. For example a Google search for SRNG.EXE showed me it really was spyware. No wonder Norton Internet Security had been asking me if I wanted to allow it access to the internet. Google is such a great engine. Of course, I should have been running the latest version of Ad-aware, and it would have been identified much earlier. Are you running version 6.1.8? If not, you should be. Uninstall your old version, and install the latest fr3e release. This latest release found 60 items on my PC that the previous version had missed just last week. Get your fr3e upgrade from www.Lavasoft.de. An upline created a new fr3e tracking tool located at TrackMe.biz. It is not a m0ney-making proposition, but simply a fr3e tool. It is fr3e as long as you agree to receive two emails from him each week. It works by generating a different URL for you to use in advertising. He will email you the statistics generated by visits to that URL. So if you want to track your perf0rmance in traff1c programs and safelists, it could be useful. But for submitting to search engines, and link exchanges with other sites, I would stick with your basic website address. As most of my websites are with Kiosk, I don't need external link tracking, as Kiosk provides all the statistics I need. Statistics and service are great reasons for upgrading. And I have n0w worked out my future strategy for building new websites. Instead of constantly buying new domain names, which does get a bit expensive, I n0w have a master domain, called www.best-australian.com. From n0w on, I will create all future websites as subdomains of this one. For example http://flowers.best-australian.com and http://dogs.best-australian.com and http://toys.best-australia.com. (Not that they exist yet). Ideally, a generic domain such as "fantastic" or "great.com" would have been preferable, but it is hard to find decent domain names these days. So my goal is to have some great shopping sites up ready for Christmas shopping, ideally with good positions on the search engines. Lots of work ahead for October. Links-Pal.com is a new site about link exchanging. It is a human-verified directory of quality websites that are willing to exchange links with others. You can be added for fre3 if you reciprocate links with them, which could be useful to your Google position, as their pages have a PageRank of 4. You can also pay extra as a one-off, for a higher listing. It is not a mon3y-making proposition (except for the owner). Another project from the Special Team is Aprospect. Accepting fr3e signups from the end of September, the will give advance notice of new websites, a weekly newsletter, Special Discounts from STMA partners, commission when they bring in big merchants, a forum to promote your affi1iate programs in. And attractively, a downline building section is planned, which always encourages activity. Your fr3e Aprospect membership could earn you a large income as they grow. This group are also responsible for Special-Team.com and SpecialFreelance.com. Being a l0ver of fr3e downloads, I sometimes go to Download.com to get stuff. One thing I tried this month was the PHP editor, Arisesoft's Winsyntax. For fr3e. Fantastic. It's informative to look at the top recommended and most popular downloads. Sometimes it's okay to be a lemming. My other favourite download site is FreewarePalm for my PalmPilot. I've downloaded games, budget managers, spreadsheets, and have been very happy with them. Some have had problems, but they're easy to delete. Again, make sure you backup/synchronize your Palm regularly. Business ProgramsMy Joint Venture has finally reached it's limit of 5000, and has closed, so I've removed it from the business page of Home Business World. Can't wait for their next phases. Another program that used to be on the business page, was ECC - Equal Chance Club. They also closed doors a few months ago, and have been busy setting up their own safelist and paid to c1ick programs, amongst other things. From the forum participants I learnt about a few HYIPs - High Yield 1nvestment Programs, which many people dabble in. I have invested the huge sum of $15 into one of them, and it has been paying me 15 cents each day. Paid Email/Survey/SurfI've been participating in a few discussions about how we can improve the get-paid industry perf0rmance. There seem to be increasing numbers of programs run by under-aged-kids who start up a program, and run off with the m0ney a few weeks later. And it's amazing how many program owners seem to be struck by ill-health or bad accidents, making it necessary for them to leave the industry. Most of my programs have been around for quite a while. Although Trinitys-Treasure's owner seems to have fallen to ill-health. But despite the negatives, I did give in and join a new program this month, purely because of the webmistresses who run it. Electric Blue C1icks was irresistable because of it's owner, even though it only has a $5 payout.
