Introduction

Suddenly it was New Year's Day, and I hadn't sent out my newsletter. Here 'tis. Happy New Year! Hope you all downloaded the freebies from the 12 Days of Christmas in time.

Fr33bies

Some great free PHP code to password protect a page of your site at Warped Web.net. This would typically be used if you were selling software from your site, and wanted to protect the actual software download link.

Marketing and Tech Tips

Learnt a new command in Google this month. Google apparently only indexes approximately 750-1000 words to a page. If your link is at the bottom of a lengthy page, it's not likely to be indexed or affect your PageRank at all. Another reason not to link exchange with people with more than 40 links per page. To check how far down a page Google has indexed enter: cache:yoururl.com. In conjunction with allinurl: yoururl.com and the google toolbar, these are good ways of checking the status of your site and other potential link partners.

SiteSell has an incredible number of lead sites advertising their product. You don't even have to be a paying member to advertise these great products.
Value Exchange page - NEW - find quality sites to exchange links with
Small Business page - for small businesses
Traffic Test - NEW - take the Alexa traffic test
Results page - successful SBI sites
Webmaster Directory page - directory of webmasters
Spamcheck page - free spamcheck scan

While visiting mlmforums.com, I read a post by a successful sponsor. His site is ProfitClinic . Look under Online Training: Sponsoring: The LockNut System. Very educational as to what will make a successful signup. It's all about the training. I think I needed that wakeup call.

If you're not a cheapskate like me, use PPC for fast results. In Rosalind Gardner's latest newsletter, she shares the PPCs she recommends for high quality targetted traffic at reasonable prices: 7Search | ah-ha | Espotting | FindWhat | goClick | Google | Kanoodle | Overture | Search123 | SearchFeed | Sprinks | Turbo10 | Xuppa . Somebody who makes that much money is worth paying attention to.

The new Can Spam act is active in the US. Here is the link to it here. Roughly, for commercial emails, no misleading subject headings in emails, identification is required at the bottom of emails, and ability to unsubscribe is required.

In case you hadn't noticed, I added a new page to my site: Affiliates. It's not true residual income, but it seems to be where product-based money is.

Business Programs

SFI has undergone a major revamp. They greatly improved their member support pages, made it easier to add new products, and split Smart Customer into a separate company, so they could concentrate all their effort on pure SFI. A good couple of moves.

Paid Email/Survey/Surf

Of course you should be reading Get Paid Read Email Blog for the latest updates to the Get Paid to Read Industry. Focussing on programs over $15.

A discussion on the best program of 2003 at GetPaidForum was leaning towards CashDelight, closely followed by AYS, Annies and AprilGolds. Gimmemail was looking tempting, until a comment on the number of searches. Maya and WebberCash are some of the few remaining programs I would consider joining, that I haven't already.

Lots of people happy (and addicted) to Mystical Mazes, a traffic program with a maze at the end of each 11 pages.

My biggest earners for the month of December, were AYS ($22), Annies ($18) and Aprils ($7) again.

And I'm just sooo happy I learnt how to hit SHIFT before clicking on a link. I get through my paid emails three times as fast now.
