IntroductionUh oh, a day or two late as usual. I'll blame the move from PC to laptop, needing to copy all my addresses, old emails, favourite programs etc across. Fr33biesHave you ever wondered about those sites with snowflakes trickling down them? It's done with Javascript. I bought a real live book to learn Javascript this month. But I cheated and went to DynamicDrive for the bubbles being displayed on this page. I copied the source code exactly, and you can see it works. I've also been reading Bogdan's email series with great interest. Bogdan is one of the authors of Project Mousetrap, that tells about the security pitfalls surrounding most sites. His last email was entitled "The New World Order In Online Business And The $100 Blonde Prostitute...", so you can see he's an interesting writer. Check him out here. Marketing and Tech TipsMy husband gave me a laptop this year, so I can work from bed. Seriously, it's great. And a good opportunity to get a clean, organised start to the year. My laptop is going to be clean, mean and a money-earning workhorse. And my old PC is now for the kids. Unfortunately my study also became a kids bedroom, so I have to be ruthlessly organised and portable. So I updated Norton Internet Security to put additional ad-blocking and parental security on the kid's PC. I was almost too late, as on the first day they used it, I noticed 13 casino windows open. I got a free copy of Tweak-XP from APC Magazine, which simplifies tuning and startup program management. It listed a few startup programs that had automatically been loaded, which Ad-aware hadn't commented on, and in conjunction with Sysinfo.org and John Mayer I found a few programs that needed to be deleted. So firewalled, cleaned, antivirused and controlled, my kids are now online. And wildly enjoying the latest edition of Incredimail. A useful tip from this weeks Icon. If you get tired of closing all your open windows to get back to your desktop, you can add the desktop to your taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Right-click on an empty place on the taskbar and choose Toolbars, Desktop. You now have the word "Desktop"on your taskbar as a shortcut. Great timesaver! With all the changes at Google, people are learning not to put all their search engine eggs in one basket. Inktomi is a paid inclusion program, now owned by Yahoo. Inktomi occasionally include some freebies, so check if you are there through the Inktomi Pure Search function from Positiontech before you go ahead and pay. Most of my sites were there, so that saved me some money. I also decided to try Ryze.com. Where you are supposed to build a network before you need it. But I am mostly too shy to ask people to join my network, so it'll be interesting to see if I grow a network. Business ProgramsFantastic news from my host, Kiosk. They are introducing a matrix! Here is their official description: After 2 referrals your membership is paid for and you go from direct sales to our linear matrix which pays you an unlimited residual income 7 levels deep . The lack of a matrix was the only gripe I had with Kiosk, and now they have one! I definitely made the right decision way back then. Obviously the goal is to encourage everybody to sign up at least 2 people. And to ensure that there are no freeloaders in the matrix. So this is an excellent way of doing it. I have so many sites hosted with Kiosk, and am very happy with them. So a great start to the new year there. Kiosk is absolutely dedicated to long-term success of it's members. They are currently doing a survey to see how they can improve their free option (so wait if you were only going to join for free), the owner does regular live internet conferences each week, and they have the backing of a mature organisation. It's time to take Kiosk seriously. I also upgraded in Herculist for 3 months, so I will advertise Kiosk there and see what kind of response I get. Pro upgrade lets you email every second day. Paid Email/Survey/SurfIt's interesting trying to work out which new paid email programs to join. As money-making propositions, I prefer programs with payouts between $15 and $50. Any less and it's not worth the effort, and any more, it will take too long to reach payout. And there is the suspicion that the program owner is relying on most people giving up before they reach payout. I always like to find out who the program owner is, and to see what the reputation of any other programs they own have. And there is the quandary of whether to get in early or not. There will always be people who jump in early, so they can advertise their program before anyone else. But these days I prefer to wait, to see what the VOLUME of traffic is like. It is worth waiting to see if the people who spend a lot on advertising, like the program or not. It's no good having a program with a great rate (5 cent emails) if nobody is buying any. So now I wait a week or so to see some feedback in the forums, to see the support and attitude of the program owner, and whether the program will be a success. To see which new programs within those criteria have been added during January, check out my weblog at Get-Paid-Read_Email.Blogspot.com. As usual, Google was nice enough to add it to the top two pages for "Get Paid To Read Email" for it's first month of submission, but now it's back to the netherworld, strangely like my main targetted page Get Paid To Read Email, which was finally indexed on Google after reducing the keyword density to 10%. As usual, AYS was the top earner for the month, by a long shot.
