Introduction

A big welcome to all new subscribers. I hope you enjoy my home business tips and feedback.

This month's comedy routine comes from another newsletter. The newsletter started "I was at a party and everyone was talking about this new program.....". I'm sorry, but if I'm at a party, I hope no-one is talking about affiliate programs. Otherwise it's time to go home and make your own fun. Especially if the only thing going for it is that "some very big names" are promoting it.

And my current bugbear is people using a particular link-search software, that has decided my sites are good to exchange links with, but has somehow found my private email address. They send automatic emails to my personal address, without having visited my site first. Because not one of them has met my link partner criteria, in terms of maximum number of links per page, subject matter, and number of clicks away from the index page. They definitely won't be my partners. Relatedly, a recent post at WebProWorld.com suggested exclusing link exchanges with sites using LinksManager, Zeus or Arelis, mostly because of the poor quality links that result. I'm tempted to agree, and add that condition to my links pages

Marketing and Tech Tips

A few useful newsletters this month:
- Trafficology August newsletter has John Reese's top tips for traffic. Plus you can trial upgrade for $1 to get even more info.
John Reese earnt over $1 million in August with the release of his program. Talk about a carefully constructed market release - he is truly the expert. Even if you can't afford his product, go to the Trafficology site and read the summary. It's worth it.
- HitNews has feedback on hit exchange programs.

Well, I finally tried the free open source e-commerce software osCommerce. My host Kiosk did the initial install for me, and I've been customising it a little, in terms of appearance. At the time of writing, I still haven't managed to get the download-delivery function working (where it comes up with a link for you to download from immediately after you have paid by paypal), so it's not fully operational yet, with non-paypal options available for testing. Feel welcome to check it out at Sydney Photos.

Business Programs

Juice are paranoid about getting spam complaints. They have changed their advertising rules so you cannot mass advertise their domain name. So you need a different technique for each advertising technique. The basic text link seems to be THIS, which my rotator didn't quite like. They also scheduled downtime to upgrade security and a few other things, so a bit of a rough start. It will be VERY interesting to see how they end up generating their income.

But the most exciting news was the release of a true forced matrix at Kiosk. When I first joined Kiosk there was a simple tiered, unforced matrix. Then they experimented with a version for people with over 2 signups. Now they've gone the whole hog with a true 4x10 forced matrix. They had noticed that people usually stayed with Kiosk long-term because of the excellent hosting service. Now they have incentive to stay with Kiosk as a business opportunity. A great innovation.

MJV has released BidHire.com, to cater for the odd job market. Including jobs as disjoint as webdesign to driving to babysitting, they hope to corner the market before others realise how good it is.

The biggest news was the resetting of balances at Annies. It actually made good business sense, as an incredible debt had been inherited from the previous owner. So now they can start afresh, with lower payout limits, and a good strong manager. It will give people more hope on payouts.
